Our last stop in Israel was this cool little place called Eilat which is on the very southern tip of the country. You can stand on the beach of the Red Sea and see Egypt, Jordan & Saudi Arabia all around you. It is also hot pretty much all year round.
We were pretty wrecked after our night in the desert so decided to treat ourselves a bit. We spent a few hours in a jacuzzi and I drank the best hot chocolate of my life! We also did some snorkeling on this cool little reef and saw lots of tropical fish I recognised from ‘Finding Nemo’.
While we were there, we stayed with a couchsurfer called Liran and his housemate Ameer who were cool guys. They showed us round and we had a bit of a party that night with some of their friends and these Austrian girls we made friends with on the bus.
Israel was definitely cool, but we were looking forward to getting to India. Travelling wise, it was too much like Europe, also too expensive and not warm enough!
Other interesting Israel facts:
- The place is overrun with cats, they just rule the streets.
- The reason there are so many attractive female soldiers everywhere you go is that military service is mandatory once you finish school. 3 years for boys, 2 years for girls.
- You pretty much have to be Jewish to live there (unless you were born there).
- Apparently everything in Israel is holy....
