Canada vs. Rest of the World

Every year at camp there is a huge football match. The best players from about 230 Canadian staff and about 70 Internationals go head to head to claim the pride.

Last year the Canadians got their first victory in about 20 years so emotions were running high and there was big pressure to settle the score.

The day was good, we all did some work and then finished early for a BBQ. An international supporter zone was then set up at the side of the pitch in case we got rowdy. They even had anthems and commentators giving some pre game chat.

The game started pretty cautious and both sets of supporters got the chants going. Canada scored first, total disaster. It gave them a bit of confidence and at the end of the first half the score was 3-0. Morale was pretty low all round.

After the break (complete with half-time show) the supporters cranked the singing up a bit. Here is some of the best chants from both sides.

- Just another state!
- We are actually a nation.
- Hockeys not a real sport.
- Go home!
- We have all your passports.
- Green card!
- Just like the Cannucks, you suck!

The second half started and a few minutes in Scottish Nathan scored. The internationals burst into life, more chanting. Five minutes later Nathan took another shot and scored an absolute screamer. The internationals went wild and stormed the pitch, Canadians went very quiet.

The goals did not stop there, English Joey and German Roland were playing like their lives depended on it. 3 more goals and the supporters stormed the pitch every time. Absolute hysteria.

Best game I have ever witnessed hands down. The banter in the International section was just unbelievable. Just a rollercoaster of emotion. What a game.
